I read a great post on my friend Cindy’s awesome garden blog about the fig beetles missing her fig crop in OC this year due to the unusually cool summer there. So I hunted around for this old illo and, can you guess? I started working on another watercolor since Cindy mentioned I should long, long ago.
If you like to garden, I highly recommend signing up for Cindy’s newsletter. I learn something new every day!
Speaking of mild weather, I don’t like to gush over it for fear of a jinx but I can talk about my good ol’ compost pile.
The magnificent, old fig trees next door mean my pile hosts the larvae of this super-cool, metallic scarab. Those big grubs are plucked out and fed to the chickens when I see them. Aww. I’m feeling bad for the adults so I’ll leave them be when I come across them next.
Meanwhile, check out this cool compostable Sun Chip bag. This is the first I’ve noticed them but I will be burying this one to see how it breaks down. Baby steps for Big Food, right?!

Getting ready to print more images, and I was thinking about how Marcy from the other day was happy with the art I donated for the upcoming OC Bloggers Ball.
It’s this one:
So, I got to thinking about a series of music related images from my childhood. What you see in the first image is the linoleum before I cut it.
See how all the words have to be backward? Does that screw up this blonde? You bet! When I scanned this, I could see I left out the first e in Silvertone.
Thank goodness I didn’t have time to cut today due to website hell “code is poetry (hi Tyler and Ryan)!

At lunch yesterday, Marcy, a blogger and FIRL, her boys, two 15-year-old’s and I had a laugh. We talked about this blog and my new Etsy shop among other things.
And here’s where I’ll pause and say BIG THANKS to all the kind words of encouragement and feedback I’ve gotten here, on Facebook and in person too. It means a lot to me and I’m listening to everything and thinking about the advice I’ve heard. Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to add new pieces to the shop and talk about them here.
So, back to Marcy. One thing she’s interested in seeing on an art blog is the process and what an artist is thinking when they’re creating. (more…)
