mermaid mea culpa
Oh! My loyal visitor. How sorry I am to have neglected the blog this past week. Can I make it up to you by explaining the origin of the term “under the weather?”
Aboard ship, there’s less rocking in bad weather in the belly of it. So when the seas get stormy, sailors will go below deck to get “under it.”
I started a literal illustration of that until I caught myself and slapped both cheeks. Instead, I came up with the lowest spot a creature can get in a storm. How’s that?
And if I can muster it, another post with words since it’s Wednesday. We’ll see…
